Teanna Tang

Miss Maryland East Coast USA 2019

I’m a first generation, Chinese-American studying animal sciences at the University of Maryland. in my free time, I enjoy modeling, dancing, photography, playing piano and learning about different cultures. Out of all these hobbies, however, dancing is my favorite. I started dancing ballet, tap, jazz, and traditional Chinese dance at the age of 4. In college, I was able to join a competitive hiphop dance team, Phunktions, which helped me break out of my comfort zone, as well as become a more diverse dancer. I have always grown up in a competitive setting, which has caused me to always work on my weaknesses. Growing up, one of my weaknesses was being extremely shy. I was terrified of public speaking and would never be the one to volunteer during class. Therefore, pageantry was something that I thought would help me overcome this issue, and it sure did! I never would have thought I would be capable of speaking in front of hundreds of people, let alone winning such an amazing title. As Miss Maryland East Coast USA, I hope to inspire other young individuals to be more accepting of all the cultures around them, and most importantly, to be proud of where they came from.
